Trend Alert: Cork Fabric!

We're excited to announce the first addition of our NEW Trend Alert Announcements — Your guide for today's shoppers. This month, our focus is on cork fabric. If you don't have cork fabric in your shop, you're missing out on a hugely successful trend. Also known as "nature's leather" because of its similar feel to leather; it's environmentally friendly, beautiful to sew with and gives your projects a special touch! Looking for cork project inspiration? No problem, we're here to help. Check out some of our favorite projects that we've made using cork fabric! Not quite sure how to use it?

Here are our top questions answered:

What needle do I use?
Because cork sews much like leather, we used a 90/14 leather needle to sew our Cork Fabric Cactus and Duffel Bag samples (we used a Groz-Beckert needle specifically. You can generally also use a standard 80 universal needle as well.

Do I need interfacing when using cork?
Generally, no because the cork itself is really stable.

Any tips learned while sewing with this material?
One really important tip that we've learned while sewing with cork fabric is that it folds better if you follow the natural grain of the fabric.

How can I show the diversity of this fabric and perhaps get some add-on sales?
Try showing cork when used with the Silhouette Machine, and also combining different textures with your cork fabric projects. For example, a peek-a-boo of fabric, or using felt with cork makes the texture of cork fabric even more interesting.

Is there a pattern for those adorable key chains? We want to make some samples for the store to show people what to do with those small scraps.
